For anyone who is conscious about their image, getting acne is the most inconvenient thing that can happen. It gets worse when the acne is gone and leaves ugly scars. Acne is a fairly common skin problem that is a result of an excess build up of an oily substance known as sebum. The substance finds its way to the skin where it is trapped and when it mixes with dead skin, it attracts bacteria leading to the formation of pimples on the skin. Although the skin problem is fairly harmless, it presents a cause for concern by some people for social reasons.
Causes of Acne
According to various scientists, no one can give the exact reason for the formation of acne. Most of the scientists can only explain the conditions the lead to the development of acne. They include;
-The unusual increase in the production of sebum on the skin.
-A higher than usual shedding of dead skin leading to an irritation on the hair follicles.
-A general increase of bacteria on the skin.
It has been observed that certain factors worsen the acne. An increase in certain hormones known as androgens especially in youth going through puberty worsens the acne. Some medication containing androgens or lithium is also though to worsen the problem. Although there is no proof, some types of food products such as dairy products are suspected of increasing the acne.

While there are many products in pharmacies promising to clear acne, there are equally a large number of home based cures. Most of the home based cures are said to work overnight or over a short period of time. They include:
-Baking soda – This cure works when you mix a spoon of baking soda with at least three spoonfuls to make a paste. Apply the paste on the affected area and wait for its to react and then wash off after 3 minutes. You should expect to see a change the following morning.
